Astons Empire

The success of Aston's formula of cheap, great portions and customization dishes has propelled Astons to mushroom all over Singapore. Still bringing cheap food to the masses in the city area, but still maintaining its affordable prices. They have expanded to Suntec City and a newly located Astons Prime in Centrepoint, bring the total of 3 branches in the city (including Cathay Branch).

Giving my friend more excuse to dine there. As much as I enjoy Astons, 3 visits in the time span of 2 months is one too many.

Budget Establishment is bound to be a crowd magnet, so be sure to be prepare to wait.

Sirlion Steak for my carb glutton friend

Chicken and Sausage Set.

The sausages though small were rather good, goes really well with either potato salad or smash. However this is costly then Double Chicken, makes one really difficult to decide on an addition slab of chicken or 6 aromatic sausages. Hmm...

Double Chicken with different Sides

Preshafruit Granny Smith

Spotted this rather interesting drink. Its imported drink from Australia that utilities High Pressure Processing to squeeze every ounce of juice naturally from the fruit. Unlike conventional juices which are heat pasteurised, thus resulting in lost of colour, taste, smell and nutrients.

Extraction Process

With our powers combine...

Different variety

I must say their design and marketing department did a great job. Defying from the traditional cylindrical bottle to a triangular one is certainly an eye catcher.
Taste wise. Its really a shocker. The juice is pleasant, clean and refreshing. Simpler to simply biting into an apple. Really puts all the rest of juices you get in the supermarket to shame.

Back to the topic on Astons. Service is rather bad. With missing orders, long waiting time and large crowds. However, this is rather understandable due to the new and inexperience service staff. Hopefully it would improve with time.

$1 Macarons finished by the 1 Minute Man

Yes. I'm still very much alive. Don't worry about the lack of posts on the blog. No. I've not died on some uninhabited island, got kidnapped by terrorist or have been abducted by aliens. My friends keep asking why has my blog desecrated into a lifeless ghost town, properly due to the endless plundering loads of school work I've been doing.

Never the less, I still have time for a bit of indulgent since Bakerzin was having their wonderful $1 promotion on their Macrons. This is after the dining in Outback (which I don't have the time to write it up and will have to wait), we loitered around till we find Bakerzin's Suntec branch.

Amongs all the other fast food outlets. Bakerzin reallly stands out.

Sadly. By the time I've arrived only 3 flavours remain.

From the Right: Lemon and Japanese Yuzu

I've never been that much of a sweet tooth. So I didn't really know what to expect of these tiny mutated oreoes. Firstly, the Lemon Macaron. Its rather sour and the shell is brittle. Honestly fairly disappointing for me. I'd hope that the lemon flavour would have been a bit more subtle and sweet, instead its just blaring sour. The second piece, Japanese Yuzu Macaron was beautifully executed. The shell is soft and crumbles when you bite into it. Its crust is slightly sweeted with sugar crystals from within, which complements nicely with the fluffy smooth cream that is ever so light citrus flavour. Well done on this gem. (Though I've never tasted Yuzu before.)

As mention on the title, the enjoyment ended quickly as the amount paid. Though disappointed at first, it was still pleasent to enjoy new things that are avaliable. So don't be quick to condemn places by your first experiences. (Just avoid lemons >_<)

Crystal Jade Kitchen @ Suntec

Blame all the japan food, same old western and shitty canteen/food court dishes I've been eating recently. Being Chinese sometimes ones just wanna go back to one's roots of simple and yet complex flavours of Chinese cooking. I've always wanted to treat my friends to some good Chinese restaurant place, but just didn't have the time and opportunity. Oh well this will do for the time being.

Crystal Jade Kitchen (Suntec)

Sorry to my friend if I'm over assertive on this special set which Crystal Jade was prompting. Its just worth much better then the other $126 set in their regular menu, plus its only $20 more for so much difference.

Seafood Thick Soup w/ Crab Meat

Rather disappointed with the soup. I thought it would be brimming with seafood like prawns, crab meat and shellfish, but it contains rather few "strands" of crab meat and tons of tofu cubes. The soup doesn't even any where near being flavourful with seafood aroma, I however taste rather sour and blend.

Sauteed Prawns w/ Salted Yolk

The sauteed prawns with salted yolk was rather good, with every plump and juicy prawn evenly coated with salted yolk. Heaven for people who like strong savoury flavours. This could easily up your cholesterol for the whole week. The prawn is so good, I licked and ate the whole shell, would have eaten the whole head if not for the eyes. (Btw. Someone ate my second portion. Ending with me eating one prawn ***Evil Eyes Stare***). The prawns heads are also trimmed, removing the sharp razor points, plus for good service.

Pork Ribs in Sweet and Sour Sauce
(Should have been Sauteed Frog with Dried Chilli and Nut in Claypot,
but my friend doesn't take seafood :P)

The pork ribs are rather good, thought a bit tough. I've tried better ones. Sauce is not too thick or over powering sour. Love the onions though. Its rather soft, not the hard raw ones that you lazily stir fry.

Crispy Skin Chicken

Average crispy chicken, nothing to brag about.

Braised Beancurd w/ Bailing Mushroom

The beancurd is really good, braise till its soft and all the sauce is infused into it. One bite and all the sauce just flows out into your mouth. Simple yet good stuff. The Bailing mushrooms has the texture of abalone, sort of a poor mans version of abalone. Hahaha!!!!

Fried Mincemeat Tofu (too bad their roasted duck was sold out)

This dish is another of my favourite on that day. The tofu is fried in a batter so thin that its like the flaky skin of a spring roll. Once you bite into it, all the flavours of mince meat and its fats burst into your mouth. Heavenly. Only complain is the sauce that comes with it. Its a cross of thick sauce and soya sauce. I would recommend the chef to change it to honey and lemon or lemon mayo, to better suit the dish. Don't get me wrong. The tofu is good enough to eat it by itself.

Yang Chow Fried Rice

The yang chow fried rice was ok at best. It wasn't oily nor was the rice clumping. However, it just lacks the fragrant and flavour of a nice plate of fried rice.

Almond Cream

I like this almond cream, its rather thick and not too sweet. Just the way I would like it. Though some may think otherwise. It all comes down to individual taste buds. I am one who dislike overly sweet stuff and prefer natural sugar sweetness. The very subtle sweetness.

There is actually one more dish of Deep Fried Soon Hock, but I forgot to snap a photo of it. Its crispy to the bone and yet tender in the flesh. I basically ate the fins. *Crunch* *Crunch*. The sauce is also just nice, not too salty and complements the fish very well.

The food is not bad in a overall and the staff is very friendly and helpful. They made the necessary changes and recommendation to fit our satisfaction. Not like some other Chinese restaurants whose staff are rude and look down on student as if they can "afford" the food in there. Though with some minor disappointments, I strongly recommend Crystal Jade Kitchen's Suntec branch. The service and food is good and you will not be disappointed.

Sizzler @ Suntec

Celebrating my friend's birthday and since he was all crazy about this place with its steak and unlimited salad bar. Unfortunately its really pricey for its stand in my opinion. Price range is from $25 and above. All sets came with the unlimited salad buffet which is value at $19.90 itself. However, who would miss the main (STEAK) in a steakhouse.

Ribeye Steak

Singapore Spicy Chicken (Hindu friend cant eat beef. :P)

Steak and Grilled Salmon

St. Louis Style Pork Ribs (Full Rack)

Teriyaki Mushroom Cheese Steak

I got the Teriyaki Mushroom Cheese Steak, should have gone with medium rare instead of medium. :s
The cheese seems to be rather like the cheese slices for the supermarket rather disappointing. In addition, only a sirloin at that price seems rather steep. The only think I enjoyed in the main is the sweet fried onions, though is seems to be rested too long, thus not as crispy as it should be. The fries are just nice with just enough season salt for flavor. Honestly, I would recommend the Sirloin Steak instead of the Teriyaki Mushroom Cheese Steak. Though priced similarly and use the same sirloin cutting, due to the "cheese and fried onions", the
Teriyaki Mushroom Cheese Steak is considerably much smaller then the Sirloin Steak set.

I also tried a bit of the Singapore Spicy Chicken, its really tender and good, but its not spicy even one bit.

On the salad bar. It has a really great variety of salads leafs, olives, sauces. There are also pre-prepared salads like tuna, pasta, potato salads, etc. (I strongly don't recommend the potato salad. Its blend.) There is also nachos with a range of different sauces and garnish like spring onion and mozzarella cheese. There is also grounded coffee machine for your cappuccino and a soup station with excellent soup with vegetable chip and crouton to go with. (The mushroom soup and clam chowder are damn good, thick and fragrant.) Finally to finish the meal, there is fruit bar and soft serve machine.

Perfectly Shaped.

Mango Fruit Cake (Fruit Noobs Beware!!!)

Birthday Boy

I do hope Sizzler adjust their menu, to provide their menu with the option of set meals alone. Instead of "forcing" the unlimited salad to the customers, since the price of the salad is "integrated" in. I feel we didn't really get to enjoy the full glory of the salad bar anyway. We were fully quite a bit from our mains and didn't really eat much from the salad bar.
